New Mexico is a country in the Southwestern part of the US. Its biggest town is Albuquerque. New Mexico capital is Santa Fe, which became founded in 1610. New Mexico is Mountain State and it is surrounded with Arizona, Utah and Colorado. New Mexico is bordered by Texas, Oklahoma and Sonora and Chihuahua. It has population of more than two million and it has vicinity of one hundred and twenty thousand square kilometers. Due to their geographic places, it has a less warm, alpine climate, while western and southern New Mexico is warmer.

Economic system of New Mexico is depending on mineral extraction, oil drilling and farming. Besides this, people here grow cattle ranching, they grow agriculture and many more. Also, New Mexico became famous as a movie set. Due to its huge area and economic power, New Mexico has a large presence of United States military. It is used for many researches and as a testing facility.

New Mexico was inhabited mostly by Native Americans for many centuries before European exploration. It was colonized by Spanish at the end of sixteenth century as a part of New Spain. In the first part of nineteenth century, New Mexico have become a Mexican area. Since then, there were tensions which ended with Mexican-American War.

New Mexico has high percentage of Latino Americans and Hispanics and also high percentage of Native Americans. New Mexico is domestic to Navajo Nation, Puebloan peoples, and Apache tribes. In ancient era, this region turned into home to Ancestral Puebloans. New Mexico is named before it became independent but it is officially named in 1821. Origins of the name are connected to Nahuatl language and it means “Heart of the empire”. Culture of New Mexico is famous all around the world for its similarity with Aztec Empire and Spanish culture.

Area of New Mexico includes over three hundred and fourteen thousand square kilometers. According to US Census, almost one third of population speaks Spanish. They are ancestors of Spanish people from sixteenth century. Smaller groups of people speak Native-American. When it comes to religion, almost forty percent are protestants, thirty four percent are catholic, and a bit over twenty percent are unaffiliated with religion.

New Mexico is center of Native-American heritage. Biggest reservation of Navajo is located here and it is located on sixteen million acres. New Mexico is, and it will always be, important part of United States.
